Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to assess the contribution of the integrated development program (IDP) model village on the socio-economic welfare of beneficiaries in Rwanda: A case of IDP of Nyarugenge District from 2016 up to 2021) The study aims to understand how this model contributes to an increase of household income, job creation and business development within the District. Research methodology: The study used a mixed methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative research techniques. The study's sample size is 88 beneficiaries of the IDP village model in Nyarugenge District. A questionnaire and documentary review were used to collect data and finally, the study used descriptive statistics and inferential statistics as methods of data analysis. Results: The findings indicate that the construction of quality house has a significant positive influence on the socio-economic development of beneficiaries of the IDP village model, with a regression coefficient of ?1=0.059 and p-value of 0.0070 (indicating significance at the 0.05 level). This suggests that a one-unit increase in the construction of quality houses results in an increase of 0.059 units in socio-economic development. Additionally, the provision of public services also has a substantial positive impact, as evidenced by ?2=0.602 and a p-value of 0.0000. This implies that a one-unit increase in the provision of public services leads to an increase of 0.602 units in socio-economic development. Furthermore, access to job opportunities significantly contributes to socio-economic development, with ?3=0.022 and a p-value of 0.0030. This reflects that the increased number of food, staff jobs in upgraded houses has generated additional employment opportunities in supply and related businesses. Limitations: The researcher anticipated challenges during data collection due to the Murburg pandemic and beneficiaries' busy schedules, planning to hold online meetings for availability and targeting days off while collaborating with project supervisors to address reluctance in submitting questionnaires. Contribution: This study contributes to the existing body of knowledge by providing empirical evidence on the positive impacts of the Integrated Development Program (IDP) model on the socio-economic welfare of beneficiaries in Rwanda, particularly in the Nyarugenge District.
